Energy Star
We provide the 3rd party verification necessary to certify the home. The following is the process for Energy Star certification on new construction. We certify for the $2000 Builder Tax Credit as well; however, you would need to consult your tax advisor as to whether you would qualify or not.
1. Energy Wise Solutions conducts a plan review (preferably before construction begins) which is required for certification. This includes gathering the following information and submittal of a Plan Review request form to be completed by the builder (with the help of your architect, HVAC contractor, and insulator):
* Innovation and Integrated Design
* Elevation and Floor Plans
* Insulation R-values of Floor, Walls, and Ceilings
* Heat/Air and Hot Water equipment size and efficiency
* Window U-values and SHGCs
From the plan review we will be able to determine if all is on track to pass energy star and/or the builder tax credit.
2. We are then required to do the following tests and checks:
* Thermal bypass check- to grade insulation installation pre-drywall
* blower door test - to measure leakage into the thermal shell of the home,
* duct system leakage test (blower door and duct blaster tests are performed once the building envelope is sealed up)
* Manual J review (supplied by Heating/Air Contractor)
